Like I've been doing shorin ryu karate for 10 years so far, and I've been doing track in high school.

I know Ivy Leagues don't really care at all about sports, but will this help at all?

It counts like any other EC that you've been involved in for a long time but haven't achieved leadership/awards in. It shows dedication and passion and will help you, but in most cases not enough to be a tipping factor like being a recruited athlete would.

How "grand" do you think the award has to be? Would winning the league championship meet in an event do anything? Or do you have to do well at states to look good?

Nope... sports help only if you're recruited. If you aren't, then they matter as much as other ECs like music, clubs etc.

Winning league or section championships, and being a team leader will both be a good boost to any application.
