Yesterday, I went to our school’s college job fairs, and out of 25 employers I talked to, only 4 people sponsored F1 students for internship/OPT. One of them was a car manufacturing company.
I talked to the recruiter, and she asked for my resume. She read the resume and commented it looks good, and told me that she would contact me around November(or October?) and talk about interviews. I was very happy to hear that, but now I am wondering if they will contact me back at all.
Do they really contact the students? I don’t want to keep up my hopes for something uncertain.
Also, it wouldn’t hurt to send a polite follow-up email, reminding her of your conversation and thanking her for her time. Follow up again in a few weeks if you haven’t heard from her (you want to be persistent but polite, not stalked material.) Good luck!
But also realize that job hunting takes a long time…they will get back to you if they want to get back to you. If you haven’t heard anything by Nov, then reach out one time. They may or may not be interested in you. Keep looking for jobs.
I represent my company at colleges occasionally to recruit students.
Yes, recruiters will contact you back if they are interested. Usually after they take your resume, they do a resume screen. They will rank resumes of students and pick a certain number to call back for phone interviews. So it really just depends on how strong a candidate you are.
Following up with a thank-you email to reiterate your interest is a good idea; I always look favorably upon the students who do that.
Although I did try to follow-up the recruiters, I must have lost their business cards because I had so many things in my hand. Maybe I should talk to someone who coordinated the career fair in our school to see if I can get the name of the recruiters of companies that I talked to. I do know the car manufacturing company recruiter’s name, and I found her Linkedin profile?
Would it be weird to request connection in linkedin?
