I just went to a technical career fair on Tuesday, talked to a few companies about internships/co-ops, and gave two companies my resume. Later that night I received a phone call, but the message they left on my answering machine got cut off after they said hello & my full name! I'm afraid that it might have been a recruiter who didn't realize they had been cut off. Would it be strange to e-mail thank-you notes to the recruiters and (in the same e-mail) also ask if I had been contacted, or should I wait for an e-mail confirmation instead?

you can email a thank you note but don't mention if they contact you.

say something like you look forward to hearing from you or try to call them to check your status or updates.

thanks for the help! I don't have much of a status to check up on, but I sent them thank-you e-mails and said I'd look forward to hearing from them.
