Do most colleges allow freshman to enter business majors?

The two “big” public schools in my state do not allow freshmen into their business schools, they have to go through an almost premed-esque period during the first two years before applying to the business school in their junior year

However, I did not find such restrictions on the websites of many other schools. In general, do private schools have these kind of majors restrictions that I just didn’t find, or are their undergraduate programs open to freshman applicants? (I’m planning to go into management/administration if that means anything).

There is no shortcut – you have to check on a school-by-school basis. Some large public schools do have direct entry business schools and some private colleges have the system you described above.

It all depends on the school and how crowded & popular the majors are. It is also done as a way to weed out students who don’t perform well in the introductory (pre-business) classes.

Many, if not most, require some Gen Ed or Core curriculum for one or two years. There are schools that allow direct access but you still have to do a certain amount of core classes as the majority of schools want to turn out well rounded, critical thinkers. BC, BU, Lehigh come to mind as schools that admit direct access (yes you’ll have some business classes right away) with core requirements.

Bentley and Babson (pretty close to each other in the Boston area) are business centric schools. They have a heavy focus on business to the exclusion of everything else. My S was admitted to Bentley but decided against it because he thought it was too pre-professional. Was concerned he’d have to transfer schools if finance or accounting turned out not to be his thing (that’s what he’ll be studying). They have great job placement!

As an example all undergraduate business schools in Massachusetts are direct entry. Also, "management/administration’ is a very vague term. Most business schools will require you to major in a particular business discipline e.g. accounting, marketing etc.
