do my EC's absolutely suck?

Involved in my church for all 4 years...includes confirmation, volunteering at Environmental Awareness Church dinners for one year, refurbishing a house 1 weekend, feeding the homeless one weekend, one year volunteered at VBS, etc

Student leader in junior year (first year you could volunteer) at Genocide Assembly where a Holocaust victim gave her testimony and I led a discussion w/ students

National Honor Society 2 years (in my school, couldn't join til last year)

Captain of my Relay for Life team (a fundraising event for Cancer research) 2 years in a row.

Camp Counselor at my local historical museum 1 summer.

12-15 hr a week job at the GAP in my town

Belonged to Diversity and Key Clubs last year (I'm a rising senior)...although I may not include that because its random

I may have forgotten the odd thing but nothing major. Too lazy to check my resume.
One of my hobbies is Genealogy...I traced my family back hundreds of years. Can I add this as an EC?

Please tell me if this is all really terrible...and what can I possibly do or how can I present myself to improve it? HELP! haha I'm super stressed out.

P.S. Had the job all of junior year/summer, and will have it all of senior year/summer

Your ECs are okay, not great, but they don’t really suck.

The thing about genealogy could be a good essay, though.

Maybe he feels that he does not have good ECs because he does not have some sort of “hook”.

I just feel like I haven’t done enough…and that I don’t have a hook as was stated. And yes my essay just so happens to be about genealogy! :p

What’s a blue goldfish? I don’t think I’ve seen one yet.
It depends on where you’re applying.

hey that’s funny I’ve done a lot of genealogy too! And I traced one side back to adam and eve!

you’ve never seen a blue goldfish? wow, and i thought i was naive.

You have a lot of variety in there, but not a lot of long-term activities (except for church). Depends on where you are going to apply, but there’s not a whole lot you can do now. Definitely keep working at your job, and continue any of the activities (do Relay for Life for a 3rd year) that you are already involved with. Good luck!

Its good, but yea, you should concentrate more one one thing. I see a lot of volunteering things, which is good

if sucking is being like most other applicants, then yes

I’d say you’ve got the average ECs of a top 30 applicant. Your a bit behind most ivy league applicants, but just barely.
