Do Not Talk About Ap Test Content -- Seriously

I'm warning all of you right now NOT to discuss the content of any test you take. I'm very serious, and while you may take my warning lightly, trust me on this. You don't want to get involved w/ the College Board.

If you don't believe me, you can read on for my own story.

In 2003, we CC fans posted threads about the tests we took following the exam. While we posted well after the exam time and obviously everyone was done, this is AGAINST TCB policies. You cannot talk about MC ever and essay questions cannot be discussed until 48 hrs.

Anyways, we talked on the APUSH forum and I only said a few things like "oh the essay was pretty easy, I chose to do A and not B, etc" and some other guys recompiled the test from memory after asking what they put for that question relating to this blah blah, etc. In the end the board compiled like 76/80 MC questions, and I guess said a little (but I never took part in the compiling). I said things like "oh I think I put (some answer) for (that question)."

Almost one year later in 2004, I got a letter (CERTIFIED MAIL) from TCB on April Fools day. Seriously. I got into like 14 of my schools already and here comes this letter that owns me. My parents yell the crap out of me and I freak out and mail all my schools. College Board threatened legal action and to cancel my APUSH scores. Despite calls/letters to the College Board, they refused to budge.

So guess what. They invalidated my APUSH score and luckily my schools said that I could still attend.

I made the last minute decision to take APUSH with the juniors. I loved APUSH so it wasn't really a problem. I knew most of the stuff in general and a lot of specifics. I just had to review to make sure I still rememered everything I needed to know. I crammed for 2 weeks with the juniors sitting in their review sessions and acting like a total nerd.

The result? I got a friggn 5 on my retake. I didn't care that I got a 2 on Macroecon. I didn't care that I only got a 4 on micro and a 4 on Spanish AP and a 3 on Eng Lit and a 5 on both parts of Physics C. I cared that I got my frign 5 on APUSH. I did a double fist pump the day my scores came out and I would like to say I owned you College Board.

So yea, I might've been happy that I got a 5 on my retake but still, my original 4 was good enough to pass me out. I'm no liberal arts major so I'm ok either way. But don't be like me. Don't get yelled by your parents, don't get in trouble with the college board, don't get in trouble with your college. Don't pay another $80 to retake a test you took before. Don't spend hours studying for a test that you took before and waste hours you can spend on acing your other tests.

Just don't make this one mistake. If you do.... well best of luck to you. I know it sounds unfair that the College Board imposes such rules on us, but I guess we have to live with it.

Also, if you want to know more about this, gimme an IM at "dmo580" if you want.

How'd they figure out your identity? Had you revealed it online?

Take this to PM or email, guys. This is a sensitive issue. College Board might not appreciate people finding out how they track people down. Just be careful when discussing anything related to this.

I'm not tryin to get around the college board, I haven't discussed any test I've taken. I was just curious as to how they'd figure out an exact identity from a messageboard username, and how much effort they'd put in to do it.

one CC mod from last year, Trinity, works for collegeboard. so watch out and play by the rules :)

That is why the only thing she posts is saying to not talk about SAT until after 9am PST and stuff.

I'm even kind of scared to just answer this now! lol. But thanks for the heads up.

Most people, especially long-time posters, have revealed enough information over time for the CB, or that matter, anybody, to track them down. It may not be intentional, but people end up posting their hometown, first name, SAT scores, high school, etc - all information that the CB can probably cross-reference to track down students. So be careful about what you discuss. Read through the AP guidelines in the stickied thread and make sure you stick within the bounds.

Athlon, how do you know Trinity works for CB? Just wondering...

I don't post that much on CC. Trust me. I'm never a longtime or REGULAR poster. I post in bunches during times of opportunity.

I post when decisions come out (on the UCLA and UCB forums). I post when I need help on things. I post when it's that AP time again.

I don't reveal myself that much except on the College threads.

Here's my guess to how the CB found me. My e-mail address in my CC profile matched the e-mail address in my CB profile. Simple as that. Of course IP tracing is quite easy too.... so its not that hard even if you don't give out much. I'm not the only one who got caught. I talked to at least 4 -5 ppl who got caught and we know that at least 20+ got caught from that board, cuz there were over 150 posts in that thread.

"one CC mod from last year, Trinity, works for collegeboard."

that's kind of creepy.. o_o

then how come ppl immediately discussed the problems in december sats? i donno about the march one cuz i didnt take that, but after the dec. one everybody was talkin abt it

disclaimor: the user posting this material does not in any way mean to convey the College Board in a negative manner nor do the views expressed in the following sentences reflect in any way or manner the views or ideas of the poster and/or his family, friends, or co-workers. In fact, if you have any affliation with the CB whatsoever, please refrain from continuing or be prosecuted in a court of law.

I can understand them not wanting you to talk about the test for a few days, but why total silence on the MC questions?

I'm reporting you. How dare you speak the M- word?!

chill, no need for the disclaimer, dont be scared *****less like these people want you to be. just dont talk about the questions.

the reason why cb doesnt want us to talk about it is because many ppl havent taken the test yet, like ppl in hawaii i guess.

but yeah, as if people dont talk about it in private. THAT won't do any harm, but discussing it on a public message board is unfair.

They recycle MC questions. If not recycle somehow change them just slightly and use them again.

Nope. Alaska and Hawaii have insanely early testing times remember. On the test it says students can only crack it open after 8 AM. Students in Alaska/Hawaii must open after like 7 AM before 8 AM... that stuff

It's all timed.

Sounds bizarre on never mentioning any AP MC. You can discuss SAt after 9am PST because that is when the last tests are opened.

I love you College Board =)

College Board is pretty scary. My Bio teacher told us about a school whose students starting talking about MC around school and stuff. they were reported and everyone who took that AP (dont know which) had to take it again. But i guess they have good reason. They recycle questions to keep the level of difficulty in the exams fairly costant, and leaking the info on MCs would ruin the purpose... O well... We always have free responses...

THat would suck if ppl started doing that; integrate the 60 second requirement

anyhow CB is verrrry tough i might as well take it in their presence to avoid any suspicion 100%
