Do Oklahoman and Asian offest each other lol

Hey guys, I'm and Asian from Oklahoma looking at:
Duke, WashU, Rice, Stanford, Emory, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Brown, Boston, and OU
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

Test Scores
SAT: 2300, 750(V), 780(M), 770(W), 9(E) - should I retake for a superscore??
SAT II's: 800 Math II, 750 Biology, will take Chemistry (probably 750-800)
PSAT: 233, 73(V), 80(M), 80(W)
ACT: 34 composite, 35(W), 35(M), 33(R), 31(S) - but that was in 10th grade, plan to retake
101 on AMC 12 (so I guess that makes me an AIME participant except that I forgot to take the test on the day it was administered) - stupid me

IN at all your schools with the possible exception of Duke and Stanford

hey thanks azngod1992

I forgot to mention some other stuff so here it is:
-had a job at Kumon Math and Reading since 9th grade, mostly tutoring - 7 hours a week, 40+ weeks per year
-high school is quite competitive, sending a student to Princeton and another to Harvard this past year

I agree with azngod except Duke tends to be fairly consistent with their acceptances (not so much of a crapshoot as Stanford), so I'd say in at Duke as well. Stanford is a complete crapshoot: I've seen people with better stats than you get rejected and people with much worse stats get accepted. Oklahoma is actually represented pretty well in top colleges, so I don't think that will help you too much.

mmm from anecdotal evidence, it appears Duke's getting a bit more selective and inconsistent with the increasing number of HYPMS kids (especially after Harvard and Princeton eliminated ED/EA) who think Duke is a safety for them (again, anecdotal evidence from ppl i know). That being said, admissions at all colleges are getting tougher. But I'll definitely agree that Duke is MUCH LESS of a crapshoot than Stanford.

EDIT: don't retake a 2300

anything 2300+ is basically pointless to retake and there is always the chance you'll get a lower score

oh hey one more question:
Would it be reasonable for me to aim for Harvard/Princeton or are those schools too high of reaches??

I'd say to go for it, since you listed Stanford. Looks great =).

Wondering: Is being concertmaster a form of leadership? If you have to organize, direct or guide other musicians during rehearsals or performances, I think it is. Same as being an officer in a school club, in other words. But if all it means is "best player" then not so much.

paying3tuitions:
I think in some cases it concertmaster could be considered leadership.
In my case, i think being 1st for school, Tulsa Youth Symphony, and Quartz Mt. can be considered since they are long term. But for NOADSO and All-state, I don't think those are leadership because it's just a regional and state competition that lasts a couple of days.

What's 'Boston'?

TUOwls: Boston University, mainly a safety since i really don't want to go to OU.

any more opinions?
thanks for anyone who's replied

god i hate asians...in everywhere. apply to HYP. if you dont ill hate you

lol COlsen573: Trust me, Asians hate competition against each other just as much as you do. And I'm probably the only Asian applying to top 20 schools without an 800 on the SAT math section haha.

Ok, BU...No one calls it 'Boston'. Just FYI, you could very well be rejected, because BU doesn't like people who use it as a safety. They know you wont attend.

are you planning on doing violin at the college that youre choosing? if so, i DEFINITELY would not count you out for any of the colleges - the way colleges tend to work is if they have a lot of trumpet players one year, then you have a worse chance, if they have a only a few, youre basically guaranteed (assuming the stats), definitely go for it.

dude leadership isn't gonna kill you...i've seen plenty of ppl with "0" president titles get into HYPSM...what they had was passion for something, which in your case seems 2b music

If you really have those stats, you definitely have a shot at any school in the country. Don't cut yourself short, and write good essays.

TUowls: hey thanks for the heads-up

COlsen: yeah, I definitely plan to play for the orchestra in whatever school I get into, hope that helps me

dashboard: thanks for the confidence boost haha

DonkeyKong: I really hope I have a "shot" at the ivy schools, but I've seen a bunch of loaded stats and ec's on CC chance me, people with much longer lists.

its not about the length of the list, its the focus and passion - long lists of meaningless EC's mean nothing. show focus, show passion, show charisma, youll be in.

Hey guys, how much would it hurt me if I can't convince my counselor to put my rank on my transcript (probably 2 or 3 out of a 750 but school doesn't officially rank).
