I’m thinking of attending the information sessions held by the ADCOMS, but was wondering if I should go by myself or bring a parent? Do most parents go or just kids?
I know most parents attend campus tours with their children, but I don’t know how common it is for a parent to attend an info session at the university.
thanks in advance!
I went to all the info sessions to all the colleges I toured with my kids. I counted one time… 21 of them
I went to all the info sessions as well and they were full of parents. I actually think it’s more important for the parent to be at the info session than to go on the campus tour. For one thing, the info sessions will generally talk about financial aid. When I went on the tours, I stayed in the back of the pack and let the students be in the front. I remember being very annoyed on the Georgetown tour at one dad who basically glued himself to the tour guide and pestered him with nonstop questions.
Parents need to know at least the financial information. I went to all information session with my D. There was one visit that they have separated sessions for the students and parents.
Yes, me too. Both DH and I went to all the info sessions and the tours as well, although we stayed in the back and let our D stay to the front.
Every session I went to was full of parents and applicants. Parents shouldn’t just attend the financial aid sessions. We need to know what we’re paying for, not just how much we’ll have to pay and where we can get help paying for it!
I also have attended info sessions with my DS. It really is good to have more than one set of eyes and ears. It is a lot to take in. We always seemed to talk about done things later that one caught and the other did not.
Also from the parent’s point of view, I liked going along to the info sessions and tours because they gave me ideas for D’s younger sibling. Some schools that weren’t the right fit for D#1 might be good options for D#2.
Thanks for the feedback guys!
