@67special I totally agree if the assignment is about creativity, and especially voluntary, it should totally be the student’s work, something they can be proud that is their work. My gripe is when artwork is added into a subject area that’s got nothing to do with drawing or building things. I wanted my kids to spend their time learning the subject matter, not coloring in language arts, or making models. What’s worse is when a grade was associated with the coloring in language arts. Those are art skills, completely appropriate for an art class and are valuable, but not for language arts skills assessment. Just like you wouldn’t assign in a math class for the students to write a poem, that belongs in language arts.
