Do Parents NEED to fill out 2012 tax returns earlier?

i got the idea that private schools require signed 2012 tax returns as part of fin aid requirements from stuff i read and heard.

Is that true or are 2011 tax returns and 2012 estimates good enough for colleges?

My parents are really not wanting to fill out those 2012 tax returns until late march early April.

Please HELPP!!!

If you need financial aid, you have to complete the forms the colleges ask for by the date that they tell you to. Period. If you wait the money may be gone.

Complete the FAFSA, CSS Profile, and any other paperwork NOW using estimated figures.

Then, the second your parents have all of their paperwork together, they need to file their taxes. When the taxes are filed, use the results to update the FAFSA, Profile, etc.

Some people have complicated finances, and their paperwork can be delayed. This year your parents should be lighting fires under anyone who is holding things up.

Some people file taxes as late as possible because they know they owe money and can’t pay it. If that is your parents’ case, they need to file anyway, and talk with the IRS about getting those taxes paid.

If you don’t need aid, well then your parents can take as long as they want to. If you need aid, they can’t. It really is that simple.
