Yes, it is possible.

UCLA was a reach for me because I was an OOS applicant and put no effort whatsoever into my application, but I got in... It happens. :)

thanks shokolad. . . im pretty confident it was my essay and interview that got me in. my two short answer essays and my main essay were well written and very different. . . for my essay about my favorite things i wrote about how much i loved zombie movies, and my main essay was a completely off the wall approach to the topic. i didnt have a 'hook,' so to speak, but i demonstrated intellectual passion and curiosity and a desire to give as much to my education as i expected to get.

I really hope so. I'm applying to seven places and only one is a real safety...I got offers from other unis in UK but I'm hoping for an offer from my reach unis.

UCLA doesn't consider state residency in their admissions process. (Other UCs do, though.)

HYPSM is a reach for almost anyone. They seem to accept a good amount of people every year if i'm not mistaken. So therefore, yes people do get into reach schools. Have faith.

^ not too much. If you're dream shatters, then......

My son was accepted to Stanford early action. He has high stats but very few ECs and his only non-school awards were NMSF and AP Scholar w/ Honor. He never did a chance thread on CC, but I am sure people would have said "no chance" due to his lack of ECs/awards.

At least for Stanford, it is all in how you present yourself in your apps.

well, I guess there's some hope then =P
