I get the sense that people don’t really respect business majors. What are your thoughts?
I don’t hear much about the Biz-Econ majors from UCLA. I feel like the people who want to do Business choose this major because UCLA doesn’t offer a course of undergraduate study in Business.
If anything, I feel like it’s more of an econ curriculum than a business one.
Not sure if the edit went through. So here’s what I wanted to add:
I’m not sure whether your question is targeting UCLA’s biz-econ program or if you’re talking about business majors in general.
But to answer the former, I would look at the course requisites for this major and compare it to other UC or other top business programs. Depending on what your area of concentration is, you would need to know if UCLA’s biz-econ program satisfies an appropriate undergrad education for your individual goals.
If you’re looking for respect/prestige/rigor in terms of “majoring in business”, I’ve been personally advised by multiple people to major in straight-up Economics instead of Biz-Econ. The rumor goes that Biz-Econ isn’t really considered a business undergraduate degree, due to all the econ courses filling it up.
