Hi, I am applying ED, EA and RD. Do high schools send mid-term grades of senior year 1st semester? I heard this from some of my friends today and an worried as I didn't do well in one of my subjects and am working on catching up by December. Secondly, I have marked "Yes", for applying for financial aid in common app so far to the schools I have submitted my apps. My parents realized that they won't quality for financial aid and are note planning to fill out the CSS and other forms. Is that okay? Should I be informing the schools I have already applied that we won't be applying for financial aid? I would greatly appreciate your advise. Thanks.

They are supposed to send mid-term grades. If your parents don’t fill out the FA forms then you won’t be considered for FA. If you’d like to apply for a Student loan then they will need to fill out the FAFSA but that can be done later. If you’d like to notify your schools that you won’t be applying for aid afterall you can do that. Some might be need sensitive for admission. Have your parents run the Net Price Calculators to make sure you won’t get any aid?

thank you so much for your kind response. I was hearing different answers whether the colleges would care about quarter grades of the 1st semester (that is grades as of now), his school said colleges rarely ask for them, but some colleges said they do care… and hence was confused. My parents tried the Net Price Calculators and that’s how came up with that though. So, just in case I want to apply for student loan at any time, I understand from your message that my parents can still apply for FAFSA and me for the loan, right? Thanks again.

If you are applying early (like November 1), chances are you don’t have first semester grades. Your GC will send your transcript up to junior year. Decisions come out in December. Then your GC would send your semester grades in January. If you were accepted and there was a substantial drop in grades first semester senior year, and I mean substantial, your offer my be rescinded. It will say that in your early acceptance letter. At the end of the school year, your GC has to send in proof you have graduated and your final grades. Again, grades need to stay good but I have seen some senioritis set in and some grades drop slightly. This usually does not hurt.

Early admits always come with caveats: you have to graduate, grades cannot drop substantially, no honor code violations or suspensions/expulsions, stuff like that. Hope that helps.

For EA/ED evaluation, they would not be able to get your first semester grades before the decision. Nevertheless, the school can always obtain your mid year report later on. In addition, final transcript is required before enrollment. There are admitted students got rescinded afterward due to unexpectedly low performance in senior every year.

Thanks a lot for of your kind responses. I meant quarter grades (that is now, mid of first semester).

does anyone know if dual enrollment classes your senior year in HS at a local CC count towards your college gpa after your admitted to a 4 year?

Depending on the school, and as far as I know this includes all the top ones, they WILL ask for mid-term grades or partial progress reports, even if these are not official. There is no getting around this, if they ask, your school will provide, and the top schools are going to ask. At the very least, you should always assume they will ask. If you have a bad 1st quarter, you need to consult with your GC about any EA/ED schools and ask whether it would be in your best interest to forgo EA/ED.

It depends on the schools (both the college side and the HS side) for quarter grades requirement. Some very competitive schools may contact your GC and ask for it if it is available.

TPerry - I think you have some misinformation. OP should check the website of each school s/he is applying to – many top schools require an “interim report” for anyone applying ED or EA – so your guidance counselor will check in with the teachers to find out the student’s grade to date.

You need to look at the requirements of each school you apply to and be sure your guidance counselor knows what needs to be sent and when. Typically ED/EA schools want your first quarter grades and all schools (including EA/ED/RD) want your first semester grades.
