Do Special Circumstances Affect it that much?

I didn't do so hot 9th( 2.8) and 10th(3.0) due to some personal issues, everything is fine now and I've gotten straight A's junior year. My ACT is 30 and i've taken four AP's all which i've done well in. I have a lot of SSL hours( 600) and a lot of extracurriculars. I want to major in marketing at UPenn but i feel that my messing up the first two years oh high school have ****ed that up.

Do colleges like UPENN take special circumstance like a family members death into consideration or is my GPA all together too low?

Also if they did how are they supposed to know?

P.S. do they also take financial cirucumstances like making less tahn fifty thousand dollars a year?

Are there any people who got in this year with similar situations?

I had bad grades junior/senior years because of health circumstances and was accepted. I wrote letter about it which I put in the "additional info" section of the Common App.

Does your counselor know about your situation? If not, you should get in touch asap. He/She should mention it in his/her letter.
