I was wondering what happens to all the bikes that the graduating seniors can not take with them? Do they get tossed, donated, or sold? It is unfortunate that there isn't a program where used/unwanted bikes can be passed down to incoming freshmen...or is there? I just thought of this after the AdmitWeekend was over.

From what I heard at Admit Weekend a lot of the seniors will sell their bikes on craigslist at the end of spring quarter, good times to buy are around May/June because bike prices all over Palo Alto skyrocket when freshman move in in September

Seniors will sell their bikes (and furniture, dorm stuff, etc.) on Craigslist or to current students before they graduate, so unfortunately, new frosh won’t be able to benefit from it. That being said, most people just have decent bikes that last them their four years. They could have a few more years of life in them, but not too likely.

As for buying a bike, there are plenty of fancy bike shops all over Palo Alto, and their prices do indeed skyrocket when the frosh arrive in September. Honestly, I’d avoid those unless you’re a very serious biker or want to make a hobby out of it. All you need is something to get you around campus easily and quickly, and IMHO, Target or Walmart bikes do a fine job.
