Do teacher recommendations need to get to the college by the deadline?

I've got two recommendations from two teachers, both of which agreed to write them about three months ago and now, with 2 days left until the due date, I haven't been able to get into contact with either of them. I've tried emailing and calling but to no avail. I'm somewhat worried that my applications will be adversely affected if the rec's are submitted late, but the more I think about it, the more it seems that the individual universities can't really fault the applicant for something that's not entirely under their own domain. However, even with that rationalization, I'm still worried.

So do universities hold it against you if a rec is submitted late?

I think colleges are pretty flexible in this case, they know such things are outside of your control. In my case, I emailed my colleges because my English teacher hadn’t submitted her recommendation by the due date and they told me that they have no problem accepting the recommendation up to a few weeks after the due date.

Thats great to hear - did you happen to apply to UVa, Cornell, Emory, NYU, or William & Mary?

I applied to Cornell ED. They told me they are fine accepting the recommendation “A bit past the deadline date” (no specifics) and I still got in

Awesome - thanks for the reply. Anyone have a specific experience with any of the other schools I’ve got listed?
