Do the regents really matter when applying to college?

I’m planning to retake my trig regents (which I failed) and maybe my chemistry regents (which I got a 77 on) this month, but I just want to know if the regents really matter since no other states besides New York take these exams. I’m planning to apply to FIT, Parsons, and Pratt for fashion design. After I get my degree there, maybe I’ll try to get a degree involving business at Columbia to improve my marketing skills. My regents grades are pretty mixed but Trig is the only one that worries me as it’s the only one with a failing grade.

Here are my Regents grades:

Algebra 1: 77
Living Environment: 91
Geometry: 81
US History: 98
Global History: 90
Trigonometry: 58
Earth Science: 78
English: 95
Spanish: 96
Chemistry:77

I already took my SAT which I got a 1200 on but this September, I’m going to study and aim for a 1400 or above. All my classes will be college classes next year and I’ve been taking college classes all through high school so I don’t know if that looks good for my colleges. I think my GPA is 3.3?

I’m just worried that if I leave the chemistry regents alone to focus on a higher grade for trig, colleges will look back on that even after I get a degree :frowning: Please answer.

Colleges state clearly what is evaluated. You should look up the target schools’ requirements. Frankly, you’ll see that art/design/fashion schools require fairly minimal academic ability – they’re more interested in your atistry potential.

As for Columbia – undergrad is not an option if you have a degree elsewhere. As for “marketing” that’s an MBA concentration – and your HS performance likely rules out top programs such as Columbia Business School.
