Do the wait-listees get a rejection letter early since no one is being accepted?

Forgot to say, he'll be going to UC Berkeley.

mine came yesterday

Hmmmmm....I"m in New England right next door to Brown and haven't received anything yet. Are they sending out the letters in batches, and maybe I am in a later batch? Or is this a good sign?

Definitely good news. You're still on the list, I think.

I'm a student living in the Middle East and my superintendent has been in regular contact with the international admissions director. Just wanted to pass the message on from her that Brown is indeed oversubscribed (more acceptances of offers than places) but they are continuing to hold some names in case places open up. Hope that helps other people like me out there who'd just like to know and get this college admissions thing over with!!

Thanks, switchblade! I've not gotten anything yet so I hope I don't!!!

When will we hear for sure? How many are still waiting, anyone know? Also, what does 'in case spots open' mean? If they are overenrolled, I don't see how many spots could open. Granted a few kids will leave because they got in elsewhere via waitlist, a few kids will gets Fs and get kicked out, but that will only be a handful and they are over by a good amount.

Got the letter today. :/ Ah well - glad to be moving on, 100%!

Yup, you're absolutely right. Those are probably the only ways spots will open up. I'm not exactly sure by how much they are oversubscribed. If it's like carnegie mellon which was 250 students oversubscribed theres almost no chance for anyone on the waitlist. it's just another way of colleges making sure theyve filled up every seat, and def not worth putting any hopes onto. I think people are much better off going somewhere that actually wants them, because if you're a hard worker you'll do well wherever you go.

No, definitely not over 250. Last time I heard was about 60-65 ppl over (2%). So, there's gonna be a slim chance, but not by much.

Do the math, if we subtract all the ppl who will pull out and who got bad grades, the numbers still would be over their maximum capacity. So unless there's somebody who Brown really needs, the chance is definitely not very high for people that still are on the waitlist.

Why are they keeping anyone then? (And how many are being kept...?) There is absolutely no way that they will not be over...unless literally 70 people start failing classes. It seems selfish for Brown to even keep people waiting at this point with the knowledge that they are already overenrolled by a lot.

Brown has been sending a lot of rejection letters everyday in batches.

Son is still waiting in Texas. I wish they would do their mailings a little faster!

The original word from admission was that there were 2 waitlist notification dates - May 15 and June 15. The mailings people have been reporting are obviously from the earlier date. And unless they are changing how they approach things this year, there will be another group that doesn't hear until that second date.

Got mine today. Bah! Who cares? I'm off to Brandeis.

iconoclast --- it's true that housing becomes problems when a college overenrolls, but that doesn't mean the fact that they cant take anyone off the waitlist.
Say, if Brown is about 40 ppl over, they may still take a couple from the waitlist whom are legacy or musician, minority, etc. However, i wouldn't count on it b/c again, chances are slim. If you are still on the waitlist, that probably mean the fact that you have some hooks. It's just unlucky for these people who are still on b/c this has been a bad year for them. Other wise, if it's last year, they would have possibly been accepted off the waitlist...

davann---borwn said that one would hear no sooner than may 15th and no later than june 15th. That doesn't mean that the second group is sent out on june 15th, it just gives a time period so that people can make and adjust tenative plans. The next batch will probably be sent out next week or so...

actually = that was not what i was told - i was told there were 2 different groups, but that was a while ago

Depressing news. Doesn't look like there's much hope, huh?

Got mine this weekend on the same weekend I was graduating...sucks. But its off to Chicago and Northwestern University for me. I'm pleased.
