Do top colleges care if you have a B in a non-core class?

I generally take the hardest classes I can, and try to take as many AP's / advanced classes that I can. I have A's in all my classes except for 1- Spanish. I'm utterly terrible at the language, and must take 3 years of it. Will Colleges care if I have a B in this class?

Yes, one B in a foreign language is going to plague your entire transcript. With a single B in that class, you would be lucky to even get accepted into your local community college.

Looks like you’re destined to be a janitor, cashier at Walmart or frycook at McDonald’s

I was in a similar situation as you in high school. I was in the running for Valedictorian but because of a B (my only) in Spanish class my junior year, I ended up as Salutatorian.

However, this also forced me to be extremely strict with everything else in my application. As a result, I applied early to Stanford and was admitted.

What colleges are you aiming for?

I think posts #2 and #3 are more like trolls than anything else.

It depends on the schools. Some school only calculate your core GPA. Even if they include the foreign language grades, it will be just reflected as a small decrease in your overall GPA. You should not too worry about it.

I don’t think it should be an issue. Most schools don’t even consider non-core classes when calculating your gpa, and even if they do it won’t be a very significant decrease.
Anyone care to chance me? I chance back!
