My daughter will be living at the Drake apartments. She was not overly impressed with the Dining Commons food during orientation–although we both agreed it was not too bad for cafeteria food. I was going to get her a meal plan, but I’m doubtful she will even come close to using up the meals. Do students living off campus generally forgo a meal plan? Should I just purchase Aggie Cash to make eating on campus easy? Can she purchase individual meals at the dining commons areas if she wants to eat there occasionally?

Thanks for any insight.

No, students in sha don’t need a meal plan. Yes, she can purchase individual meals. Lunch is about $10 and dinner is about $11 or $15 (I can’t remember).

Thank you. I could only find conflicting info, and this is not answered anywhere on the Dining Commons pages. I found where you can purchase blocks of meals, but it looks like you can only do that if you have a meal plan. Do you now if you can use Aggie Cash to pay? It would be nice to only have to carry an ID card–or can you charge it to your account?

Sopranokitty, I’ve really appreciated all of the answers you give on this site. It has been especially helpful for us since you understand the transfer student experience

Yep, you can use aggie cash to pay. You can also use your credit card or even just cash.

You could also join the DC sell/buy swipes page and have a freshman swipe you in. Most effective spring quarter when everyone’s trying to get rid of their swipes and will sell cheaper. People were going as low as $1 per swipe towards the end, $2-3 being the most common.
