I’m strongly considering attending NYU because of the opportunities in New York, particularly in finance and banking. However, as a CAS prospie, I’m concerned that mainly only Stern students are offered/exposed to Wall Street and IB internships. Is this true? Can I major in Econ with a focus on theory (more math-based) and still land a job/internship in NYC?
Not true - if you take advantage of doing internships / networking early on you will get a lot of opportunities. It also makes sense to sign up with a couple of Stern clubs and stay involved to reap some networking benefits as well.
I know several CAS kids who were able to get IB / Wall Street jobs - being in NYC alone is a huge advantage whether you are in Stern or not
Can I get the same opportunities going to Boston College for a lower price?
well BC is not in NYC is it? - if you want to do finance in Boston i’m sure you’ll have good opps coming out of BC
if you’re in BC CSOM you’ll have some opps for NY but its hard to beat location in NYC if you’re doing all the right things
So location truly does matter a lot? What are some examples of finance jobs I can get in Boston? Btw I’m not CSOM or Stern, just CAS Econ.
