My son took the SAT Reasoning a couple of times, the ACT with Writing once, SAT Math II once and SAT Physics once. Can we skip the SAT Reasoning and send the rest? When we tried to send the SAT Subject Test scores and uncheck the SATs, College Board's website warned that Tusts wanted all test scores. One Tufts' website, it stated that either of the following is sufficient: (1) SAT Reasoning Test and two SAT Subject Tests or (2) ACT with the Writing Section. My son did better on the ACT than the SAT, but he also did well on the two SAT Subject Tests. We received this response from Tufts: "Since Tufts requires either the SAT with two SAT II Subject Tests of the ACT with Writing, either all SAT scores will be submitted or all ACT scores will be submitted. You can also choose to submit both sets all scores. If you would like to submit your SAT II Subject Tests, they will be submitted along with the SAT scores as well. Please note that you will not be penalized for any low scores; Tufts superscores both the SAT and the ACT, and will review whichever test has the better score based on a metric that we have developed to compare scores from both test."

Sounds like tufts has given you an answer. Send all scores & they’ll probably consider his sat2s and ACT scores, as those will be most favorable.

So If we only send the ACT with Writing, then we’re set. If we also send the Subjects Tests (optional when sending ACT, required when sending SAT), then somehow we’re required to also send the SAT?

Yes, but don’t sweat it. Tufts is not going to use your son’s SAT Reasoning scores to disqualify him. They will use the ACT scores because those are the most favorable. I’m not even 100% sure they will end up using the SAT Subject Test scores when an ACT Science score exists, but there is no harm sending them.

If your son is applying to Tufts Engineering and only sends the ACT scores, he may get a note on the Admissions portal that his SAT Subject scores are missing! This happened to my son when he sent in his application. When he talked with Admissions he was told it was a mistake and the SAT Subject tests were not needed. If you believe the SAT Subject Test scores will make the application look better as a whole, then send them with all the other SAT scores with no worries.
