Also (sorry, can’t edit my earlier post at the moment)

If you’re a girl, please keep away from Forever 21 and stores like it. I will never understand why anyone shops there. It’s cheap tacky clothing (who does everything come attached with accessories? Does a necklace really need to be sewn on? That’s tacky as hell.) and the quality is ridiculously horrible.

I guess I’m the only one who feels this way but, to me, F21 screams cheap and tasteless.

Macy’s is good, I don’t really shop there too often but it’s far better than F21. And Charlotte Russe is okay; it’s inexpensive and the quality is a little better than Forever 21.

I don’t really like H&M though. It on the cheap side too.

Try finding good outlets by you. I live about and hour from ours, but a couple times a year I make the trip out and there are some great deals. I go mainly to the JCrew, Polo, and Gap outlets, but there are also lots of others. They have great deals and you can get a lot more for your money.

JCrew also has a 10% college discount if you show them your ID.

H & M is awesome and dirt cheap, the quality of the stuff is good.
Pacsun and AE are always great for jeans.
Old Navy is a great option if you want alot of basics, and cheaper jeans.
American Apperal is amazing as is Urban Outfitters, you’ll get a lot of color
at AA and alot of funky items at Urban.
I also completely support vintage stores, and Goodwill- you never know what you’ll find.

So far I’ve bought clothes at: Target, JC Penney’s, Old Navy (only place I find decent jeans), Forever 21, Dress Barn (awesome clearance racks), & Mandee (even BETTER clearance racks). Summer clothes are on clearance right now so I’ve been buying a lot of that. I can always layer up with cardigans, etc.

N.B. Went on my back to school shopping two days ago, so I remember the prices of things. And I hope you, OP, are a girl because otherwise this will be mostly useless.

Charlotte Russe basics are nice. (Got several pairs of leggings for $5 each for the fall, tank tops not on sale were $9.) I also like Forever 21. A lot of their stuff is cheap garbage, yes. Some of it is FUN cheap garbage, like this hippy golden robe-shirt thing I tried on for kicks :D. But they do have worthwhile pieces hidden random places. Found a totally classy, well-made purple dress for $15 that would definitely have run me at least $40 at a department store, $60 at one of the higher-end teen shops (like Free People). I do love Free People, but it is So. Expensive. O.o I personally don’t like Garage much, but it fills pretty much the same niche as Forever 21. Their jeans stretch like heck, though. So does Papaya, I think. Also, be on the lookout for seasonal stores. There’s this one in my mall that sells coats and shoes, and it is Ridiculous of the Cheap. The coats are quite nice. The shoes, not so much, but if they routinely sell them for $5, I’ll take it.

Also, the Nordstrom children’s shoe section definitely caters to people through college-age. It’s not cheap, but it’s not particularly expensive, either.

Black & White has some very nice dresses; when they’re on sale, you could probably get them for around $60. I also like J.Crew, Banana Republic, American Eagle, and Nordstrom.

URBAN OUTFITTERS!!! especially on sale, they go ridiculously low, especially on those 50% off of sales day, so you could get a bunch of stylish t-shirts for only 5 dollars.
