I never understood the use of guidance counselor recommendation letters… The only students the guidance counselors at my high school ever knew anything about were the ones that were more likely to go to prison than college. And this was at one of the best public high schools in Michigan. Our system was that we were supposed to write a form about ourselves, and they filled the information into a template.

^ Our kids go to a larger high school with about 1600 students. The GC’s have the seniors create a resume and fill out a form that goes into detail about themselves. The GC’s then use that information to write their recommendation letter. Its really the only way they can do it. There are just too many kids to know specific details about all the kids. especially the ones who don’t get in trouble.
