Do you find accounting boring?

yes I want to know that too.

Which is better.

Finance and Accounting Undergrad

or

Accounting and Masters in Accounting

I know but would allow you to take CPA exam

If you want my opinion, I would say accounting as an undergrad and some specialized area of accounting in grad school. However, that is solely my opinion.

hey taxguy, would you say that a career, not necessarily the coursework in college, can be fairly quant heavy if you want it to be? I really think I'd like to pursue a career with a lot of quant work, so would accounting still work in those terms, or is that all finance?

actually scratch that, I'll ask my questions in that big thread so that you don't have to keep chasing me around to answer my questions.

If I like work that most consider boring and tedious, yet I can only do basic math will accounting be a great prospect for me?

Let me be clear in order to prevent further questions: I can't tell you whether accounting would be right for you. YOu have to experience it for yourself. Take some courses and see what you think, Intro to accounting should give a decent birds eye view of what the upper level courses are like.

I heard that the big 4 make you work like dogs, you need to work long hours, highly stressful and most people quit after 3 years in the public accounting sector.
My counselor told me at an intermediate accounting break out session.

Spate, all firms expect a lot of work and productivity. That is what being an employee anywhere is like, other than working for the government.

I don’t find accounting boring at all. I actually enjoy learning about it because it covers many aspects of business that I didn’t know. I don’t mind recording entries and actually quite enjoy that. Many people think it’s a boring profession and I believe all studies and careers have their boring points, so yes while it may be boring in some areas like taxes, there are other areas that are really fun like Financial Accounting.

I am totally agree I start to hate accounting especially managerial DAMN!!!

I kind of liked financial accounting…

I don’t see how you can say it’s just remembering “the way things are done” with “no logic.” If you ask me it’s 100% logic. It’s extremely organized so that all businesses have comparable and consistent financial statements.

I want to give you a different perspective. I finished my undergraduate work in 2001 and went to work for a small accounting firm. Everyday was an adventure. I was given a lot of responsibility very quickly and I loved working with clients. By 2006, I was licensed in two states, completed my MSAT and went to work for a large regional firm. I mostly worked in the office and didn’t particularly like it. In July 2006, I was diagnosed with a major illness. After I recovered, I started my own firm and haven’t looked back. I also started teaching at the college level.

I know the classes can sometimes be boring but once you get into the field, the work can be very rewarding. I love helping my clients in all aspects of their business.

The financial accounting classes are pretty interesting to me. But tax, auditing, and cost/managerial accounting aren’t so… bedazzling. Accounting really isn’t the most exciting field in general, but I think most people know what they’re getting into once they’ve had the principles of accounting courses.

I don’t know if it’s true, but I’ve heard that financial accounting is considered the least interesting class… I would think auditing would be more interesting since you are dealing more with GAAP and making sure that companies are following all the reporting rules.

Accounting was so incredibly boring to me! It wasn’t worth it to me to work at any of the big 4 firms for about 80 per week 7 days a week for such low pay.

My friend is majoring in accounting. When we were studying together he explained very briefly what it entailed. I got to say, I tried not to fall asleep… He seems to enjoy it though. But it was only one portion of one homework. So yeah different strokes for different folks.
