Accounting is somewhat getting boring.

Hey gang,

At times, Accounting for me gets boring, although I do appreciate the dynamics behind it, and the importance to better understanding business.

I am very interested in higher Mathematics, and the thought of working in the industry for a specialized field sounds like fun.

I just don't know at this point, how much more I can appreciate Accounting. My primary reasons are for the good job prospects. I would be going to graduate school, and then later sitting for the CPA exam.

Anybody else in the same situation? All comment appreciated.

Thanks

Look into becoming an actuary. Much more creative, many opportunities. Never a bad day. (Well . . . .) I am not an actuary, but I never even heard of the field until I was 30. I have a good friend who was a math major, was guided toward actuarial work, and hasn't regretted it for a day in his life. There is a very rigorous series of exams to pass that can take 5+ years once you start working, but once you've gotten that under your belt, you're homefree.

Let's face it: doing people's taxes isn't the most thrilling endeavor in the world.

Fides,

Nothing too exciting about it, that's for sure. At times, I want to use my brain for slightly more challenging endeavors.

I suppose I could at least complete a Minor in Mathematics. Or major in Math, and take business courses enough to make sure I could go to grad school in business.

I just want to keep my mind sharp. :)

Why not major in Math? In my opinion, someone with a Mathematics degree is just as desirable, if not moreso, than someone with an Accounting degree. If you are going on to professional school, definitely pursue what you want.

And FYI, pursuing a math degree is not particularly common because it's so freakin difficult. It will be more impressive, in my opinion, than an accounting degree, which so many people will have.

^ I second that.

If math is your passion, I say major in math. If you want to become an accountant afterward, go to Accounting school. But you need not major in Accounting as an undergraduate to become an accountant.

Actuary! Actuary! Actuary! Check it out!!

First of all, thanks guys for your help. I appreciate it!

Yeah, majoring in Math sounds like fun, and will sharpen up my brain I think. In the meantime, I can just finish up the lower division business core and Accounting pre-graduate requirements and later complete a Master's in Accounting, which was the plan anyway.

I will think about this. Sounds good though. And if I did decide on majoring in Math, I don't have to change anything, as I applied to my school under the Sciences as Applied Mathematics major.
