Do you get to read your recommendation letters and counselor reports?

As stated in question.
I know we waived the right on Common App but how come some people know that their recs are “good” or “amazing”? Do you get to read them after admittance??

Sometimes letter writers choose to show them to the student. Sometimes not. What you waive is the ability to ask the letter recipient (the college or scholarship organization) to see the materials. Nothing is stopping you from asking the letter writer yourself, if you’re so bold.

I’ve said this in another thread but my school has a procedure for LORs. We have to give each teacher a “resume” and said teachers are required to give the student and guidance counselor a copy.

As part of the application you sign a waiver saying you won’t ask to see the recommendations. Some teachers may choose to share them but my experience has been that most do not.

When asking the teacher for the LOR, it is always wise to ask if they would be willing to write you a positive LOR.

Sometimes teachers and GC show the student what they wrote, but most of the time they don’t. (In our experience, in our school.) YMMV.

Students in our school do not see the letters before they go out. After graduation, they can get copies.

Rule #1: don’t believe everything HS kids say on CC
