I looked at the academic calendar and I was surprised that they were two separate periods. I'm a transfer student and from my former university, we just had one combined week.

I live on the west coast so was curious if it's worth flying all the way from ithaca and back given the few days allotted. Anyone here think it's worth it to go back home on both these breaks, just one or the other, or none at all? i would say im tightly knit with my family :) and get homesick easily

I’m in a similar situation. Transfer student who lives on the west coast. I’m not going home for break this year, too expensive to fly. I’ll probably visit my family in Maine though.

I live in New York, so I can easily take a bus south to go home. I don’t bother going home during Fall Break, though. It’s a short hiatus and more of a respite period for me.

There were a few folks that lived in places like California that did stay throughout all of Thanksgiving Break. Others that lived far did fly back to where they were from, but who knows if they would do that again?

Islander4 what do you consider the “south?” Do you mean something that’s just a little below New York? I mean I really live in the south and a bus would not suffice.

There will be many kids that stay in Ithaca for the very short fall break and many stay for Thanksgiving. For those of you who live far it does not make sense to go home for fall break but you will probably go home with a friend for Thanksgiving. You will enjoy both breaks as a rest from your schoolwork. The midyear break is long and that would be the time to head back home although there are kids who use this time to visit with new friends from Cornell.

Most non-freshmen stay in Ithaca for fall break. I know in band we usually have a football game and a short trip over that weekend. As far as Thanksgiving is concerned, all of my friends left, but we all live within driving distance of Cornell.
