I guess its just one if those days but seeing all these posts about schedules and everything makes me feel inferior in comparison with you guys. Maybe its because at my school there is no way a sophomore could be taking AP calc bc or AP chem or physics. it doesn't work like that. I am taking the most AP classes out of everyone in my class I am on a junior Olympic team, travel orchestra, 9 clubs etc but I still feel mediocre on this website

Anyone else?

I think a lot of people feel the same. I try not to compare myself with other students, but it’s hard to do that on CC

Its ok, believe in urself

Nope. Don’t care about what other people are doing; just do your own thing.

When people rate schedules with 6 APs an 8/10 a puppy dies.

Your credentials just made me feel mediocre. Lol. But really, they did.

Just realize that CCers are a group of kids who 1) are looking for a venue to see how they stand compared to others (hence the kabillion “rate my schedule” posts) and 2) regular kids who stumbled upon this website and just like using for fun/procrastinating.

Trust me, you’re credentials are far from mediocre :)

Not really, the great thing about the British education system is that there is no way of distinguishing between great students (me) and exceptional, gifted students.
I do feel a little mediocre when I look at how few ECs I have now, over the last few years I’ve give up quite a lot, but in my head it still feels like I do loads of stuff, but when I list them I have like 3.

@twentythirteen
Oh I’m sure your credentials are perfect!

I just hope everyone here knows that we are all exceptionally above average. Most students do not even know what an AP class is…nevertheless consider it as an option.

Everyone be happy!!!

Yeah, I do feel pretty mediocre quite a bit. I especially feel mediocre right now because it’s the summer before my junior year, and I’m not in any great free summer program (free programs are always way more impressive than paid ones, and I also have no chance of affording a paid one because of my low income). In fact, I’m not doing much at all. Basically I’m just taking pre-calc over the summer, field hockey pre-season, just started shadowing a vet every Saturday, a 5-day choir internship, some studying, a bunch of drawing, practicing piano, and AP summer work. I really, really want a part-time job and have applied basically anywhere I could, but I haven’t gotten any responses yet. I also really want to volunteer a looot at 3 different places and I did the applications and everything and have some stuff set up, but the people in charge have been seriously slow at contacting me back so I haven’t started volunteering yet. I’m so scared that I’ve just been wasting away my summer and that’ll screw me over. =/
Also, I applied for a research internship at the local state flagship university, but of course I didn’t get in. I also didn’t get into this short week-long choir summer program.

wait what? starlily read what you wrote
read it

What? The stuff I’m doing /might/ sound like a lot, but there’s a lot of wasted time in there too because I wanted to fill that time in with volunteering (I really wanted to get 200 hours in this summer, I have basically zero. I have around 70 other volunteer hours, but that’s really nothing compared to some people here)… but people aren’t contacting me back.

I guess some people are very impressive. They do all these international science competitions and stuff.

@AlexHarper: I’ve heard of junior Olympics…what is it?

Well, yeah. My school doesn’t let you take ANY AP classes until junior year, and even then, there’s only three they let you take–Calc AB, Government, and Statistics. The other four are reserved for seniors.

^Yeah…a lot of the kids on CC go to great high schools that offer APs in 9th grade!! I wish my school let freshman take APs the first year of high school!!

My school started offering AP Human Geo for freshmen this past year… of course, I transferred this year as a sophomore, so I missed out on that.

I wish my school had AP Japanese, but hey.

I’m sick of people saying the word “only” when referring to AP offerings. Your “only” makes MANY other schools look horrendous.

Junior Olympics is like an intense travel volleyball league. I’m in a different state every weekend

Agreed. Of course, I can feel mediocre at school if I let myself. I just have to focus on what I’m good at.

Same about the APs - my school doesn’t offer any until Soph year (unless you’re a brilliant frosh taking Calc) and then even in Soph there are only a few you can take (Euro OR world, econ, languages) and then in Junior & senior year you are restricted to 5 per year (MAX MAX MAX - if you want 5, they review your schedule and ECs to make sure you aren’t overloaded, you have to meet with a counselor, etc), as they don’t want kids going crazy.

The problem is is that my school does offer a wide variety of APs even though we can’t take them all so the “AP courses taken vs. offered” always sucks for me compared to other CCers.

I find it funny at times where some people go on here so they can brag about their ivy hopes and tell others that the only shot they hav Is to take the hardest courseload and have a ton of EC’s. Sometimes it seems like a few people on here just want to say who they’re better than. But besides that, no I don’t feel mediocre because I know what I alone want to accomplish, and what I alone am going to do to get there.
