Anyone else feel like crap after logging on to CC? I thought I was a very accomplished student before I made an account, and logged on only to get advice about my senior year. But then I see everyone here saying "Oh my gosh I only took 12 APs and got 2300 on my SAT, however will I get into Harvard now?!?!?! :/". Please let me be not the only one who feels this way.

Well, in all likelihood they won’t get into Harvard, so their worries are justified. But if you haven’t based your self-worth around whether you get into some insanely selective college, these people’s problems shouldn’t affect you.

Just stay off the chances forum. There’s a lot of false modesty there. Those people don’t actually think their stats are as bad as they say they do.

You’re not the only one. I am an above-average student at my school and a below average student on College Confidential. I let CC motivate me rather than discourage me if anything but I know feeling subpar is a normal feeling that many people on this site share. CC is a very small minority of students in this country, and just because your stats don’t compare to what I imagine is .01% of students doesn’t mean that you aren’t competitive and that you aren’t going to succeed in life.

Thank you, that makes me feel a lot better. I wonder why this college forum attracts so many valedictorians and future-ivy leaguers?

Average and below-average students aren’t particularly interested in the college admissions process because they aren’t applying to colleges that reject a significant percentage of their applicants. Most college students go to relatively unknown state schools and community colleges.

Lol I can totally agree. I thought my grades were fairly good but some of these people’s stats make me feel like I have no chance of getting into college

Meh. I don’t care as much because I won’t apply to an Ivy. However, I will apply to other top colleges, moderately good colleges and some good safeties. The best college I get accepted to will be the one I will attend. The mindset of this site is fine; only the best is par.

On a side note:
Imagine the acceptence rate of the Ivies in five years. It’s only about 8% now. Simply amazing.
