Do you guys know anything about Iona College?

curious. thanks

Iona is a Catholic College located about a half hour north of NYC. There is train access nearby to the city. I know of a few people (its a popular choice around here) who are attending/have attended and they seemed to like it very much. I have been past it a few times and the campus seems very nice with mostly nice brick/stone buildings. It appeared like at least the front part had a nice brick wall entrance running on each side of the campus with a I think a security gate house at the front. Right across the street there is another section of the campus with a few dorms and some other buildings. There is entertainment (New Roc City) nearby along with restaurants. New Roc has an ice rink, lots of theatres and I think bowling among other things. The schools has had off and on success with its basketball program and has made appearances in the NCAA tournement. Some players have played in the NBA. I believe that the business program is suppossed to be pretty good. It appears to be a good solid school. Hope this helps.

Iona was Founded in 1940 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers.

There are 3,000 undergraduates, and total enrollment is 4,800.

It is located in New Rochelle ( Westchester County ), NY. One of the richest areas in the state. Also, Iona College at Blue Hill is a branch campus in Rockland County, New York launched in 2003.

If you're interested in sports, The Iona Gaels are part of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and participate in twenty-three (23) NCAA Division I programs. In most sports, their fiercest rivals include Manhattan College, Fordham University, University of Miami and Fairfield University. The Iona Men's Basketball team made it to the 2006 NCAA Basketball Tournament, only to be ousted by the LSU Tigers in the first round.

It has a great liberal arts program and English, Communications, the Business are some of its strongest programs.

The tuition is quite reasonable I'd say compared to most LAC's ( about $24,000).

Some of its most famous graduates are :

John Sweeney (labor leader), current president of the AFL-CIO.

Robert Greifeld current president and CEO of The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. (NASDAQ).

Catherine R. Kinney current president and co-chief operating officer of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

and of course, my personal favorite :

Don McLean (American Singer-songwriter), Most famous ballad was 'American Pie' which has lyrics in the song that make subtle references to his days while attending Iona. He also wrote the classic song about the painter Vincent Van Gogh -- VINCENT ( Starry Starry Night ). Mclean attended night school, and received his Bachelors of Business Administration from Iona in 1968.

It has an excellent program for learning disabled students.

A friend of my sons is a freshman. I think he is planning to transfer. His complaints are that is a suitcase college and he is not challenged academically (I find this interesting because I would not have described him as a "student" in high school)

my cousin goes there and he loves it

do you guys know anything about student life or financial aid i believe they offer a full tuition grant with sat scores around 1300 is that true??

i know that my dad went to iona and seemed to like it. then again, that was a loooooong time ago.

Heard from a GC that it empties out on the weekends. Student from a previous class found that out after she got there.
