Yeah, it's easier to get along with them since they're in all your classes and know the pain of having a huge workload.

I know people from other "sides." However, the ones that I'm close with are the ones that aren't that motivated in school..I get along more with people who are like that. And the people who are motivated academically are the ones I talk about college with, and not about anything else much actually.

im around idiots... make me wanna be taciturn and quiet rather than talkative cuz theres noone to talk to other than IDIOTS.

My best friends are definitely not as motivated as I am, but I suppose it helps me put life in a more appropriate perspective. When I'm with my friends in my AP classes, all they do is talk about college, college, college...SATs, SATs, SATs... It can be overwhelming sometimes...

Not really. I mainly hang out with friends from dance class or theater.

academically motivated friends are the best way to go...definitely
i can talk to them without getting the why are you so obsessed? lecture
Though i love learning..... i am a perfectionist resulting in an obsession on correct answers...so people think i'm obsessed with my GPA :P
but my friends can totally understand me so its all cool

I have a fair number that are quite academically motivated, and a fair number who aren't. The reason for that is that I met/made most of my friends in my classes, and I'm mostly in Honors level classes, and it's generally academically motivated people who take those classes. I have met/made friends with other people too, so, you know. I like the mix because sometimes it's nice just not to really care, but sometimes it's nice to really be into it all and whatever.

All of my close friends are pretty academically motivated. We don't talk about school and GPA and SATs all the time, but it's good to have a choice of being able to talk to them about such things and them understanding your problem/concerns. I do have friends who are not as motivated, but they're just regular friends, not close friends.

yes.......

I have only one friend who is as motivated as myself. Overall, I'd say the majority of my friends are motivated though.

Only one of my good friends is as motivated as me and it drives me crazy.
I just don't get how some of my friends don't care at all about school or grades.
It is a nice relief to not talk about that stuff all the time but it also sucks because I hate sharing with them when I do well.

I know exactly what you're talking about. plus at my school...someone might get a 95% and say "oh, i suck," and you get an 86% and say, "i suck,"...and the 95% says, "no, that's really good."

what is HS coming to? this is ridiculous.

...Go to Asia and you won't find a school that ranks. They think it will threaten top students. (and I agree)

None of my best friends are as grade-oriented as I am, and l like that. They keep me grounded in, you know...reality. ^_^

I think you really need a balance. You'll stick out like a sore thumb if no one else is a motivated as you are, but I'd definitely agree that you need at least few friends who are more lax to keep you grounded. :D

Most of my friends are highly motivated. I only know a couple of apeople who arent and I just dont understand them....

I think that people who aren't motivated by at least something are boring. So most of my friends are pretty motivated and passionate. I do have friends who worry about GPA, but I think it's a standard to always worry about a grade or two. All my friends seem to be genuinely interested in the subjects they take, so it's all good. :)

My friends are very motivated, and we often compete for better grades :)

at school the majority of my friends cheat and are way more into the whole party scene than studying. They do everything for the grade. They are not my best friends because of this.

It actually really funny though because i'll be ranting on about some scientific or wanting to have a 'deep' conversation and they have no idea what i'm talking about.

oh and I correct their grammer a lot..or burst out laughing at some of the grammer mistakes. I love being a nerd. :)

my best friend is motivated. btw

and the really funny thing is (as posted above) you get a 95% and are like 'I suck' and then your friends are like YOU ARE SOOOOO SMARTTT
I'm just like.. uhh.. thanks?
