Do you hang out with people as 'motivated' as yourselves?

^^^You correct their grammar?

I only read the first post but I agree.
Most people on CC are aimed toward competitive colleges, when in reality WAYYY more students aren't even in honors classes. On CC it seems like if you aren't spending all your time studying and doing hours of homework and getting no sleep then you aren't as good as the rest. I think it's possible to not be part of this "perverted geek hierarchy" (hahahaha) and still have a social life. No I'm not aiming for Harvard or MIT. But not community college either.
It's pretty twisted.

Oh and I'm not sure exactly. I' min all honors classes. But so are alot of people at my public school and all my best friends. But we're not geeks. We're actually really laid back. We barely talk about grades or classes, but when we do it's not because of college it's just because. There are some geeks in our classes but the majority is more normal people who still get good grades =]
That may sound shallow or something like that but it's the truth..
Oh yeah. But almost all of us cheat sometimes. Like just copying homework or something. I really don't know anyone who doesn't. Kind of sad. But only a few things 0=]

most of my friends are potheads. most of my friends are smart. none of my friends are driven to go to some prestigious college.

I`m not in high school anymore (can't believe it's been 2 years already since then) but I do want to share that I do remember this sort of thing happening at my school. Well I guess my experience was a little different, but still you probably could take a thing or two about my story....

I was probably the only non-caucasian kid in my class (maybe one of the very few in the whole school) to take AP classes. I know sound like it sucked right? Well no. I mean sure everyone had their little groups and I felt sort of the odd person there since I was not part of that and the fact that I was not originally of this country. But I tried to make the most of it. People outside of those classes were mostly minority groups and always wondered what I was doing there. I liked the classes because it was more than just learning. Teachers in regular courses at my high school thought minority students would never amount to anything and gave them homework like such. This is why I decided to go to a class were I wouldn't be doing crosswords, connect the dots, or anything mediocre that would not make me grow or actually prepare for college. I also wanted to prove these teachers wrong. I actually had a chance to show that anyone could take the classes even though you're not doing it to pass the AP test (and I never did) you could be successful at it. Most of the people I knew who did not take those classes dropped out of college or did very bad on it and missed chances of scholarships. And it doesn't mean you're a complete geek if you do take the classes, cuz to tell you the truth I wasn't an above 3.8 GPA student like most people in the class but I was there. If other people think you're too "nerdy" to hang with them, it shouldn't bother you because they don't want you to suceed. But I also didn't say you should brag about being in higher level courses than people, that sounds like a pompous brat. I think the best way of putting it is balancing things out: being laid back and having fun and all but also think about the future....'cause it won't be long till you're there.

And going to any college is ok I think. Any college is better than no college, right?

Well enough me talking. :P

No, not really haha. Most of my friends are going to the local community college and have no aspirations. They are happy if they pass. But, they keep me grounded and remind me that grades aren't everything.

I'm friends with the person right behind me in rank, and I like all other top five kids, too. We're all in the same APUSH class-- it's pretty crazy. Most of my friends are fairly motivated, too, but more career-minded than grade-oriented. Like, "I don't care if I'm not in the top ten, but I'll take five medically themed electives per year to show my 'passion'" or something.

My schools weird... Like, it's not hard to get A's at all, but it's pretty hard to have a high rank, probably because the grade inflation's so bad. Everyone's, like, .01 apart or something. You could screw up on one grade and drop down, like, seven ranks theoretically. o.O

All the top people basically know each other, but my friends aren't really that motivated. (Perhaps it's because I have high standards?) But I do have a couple of friends who are almost as motivated as me.

My school rank is almost like lunar's. Well, at least the screw up on one = drop ranks. But, there's a bunch of kids in rank 10 or something, so you screw a grade when you're rank 10, you drop to, like, 240 or something. Seriously, it's weird.
