do you have to get straight A's!!!!!

Hi, I am a good student who is going to apply for all TSAO schools. I was wondering whether Straight A's are imperative to get into the schools. Im in 7th grade applying for 9th and i have taken the SAT and got over 600s in both math and reading. I will be taking the SSAT and probably will do pretty good. I play squash and volunteer. I am also in my school's gifted program. THis program boosts me ahead 2 years ahead of regular ed. So right now i am doing ALGEBRA 1 and next year i am doing Geometry. It is because of the program that i havent gotten straight A's. I have only gotten A's and B's mostly A's though. So i guess i have to questions!

Does not having straight A's put you out of the running for getting into these prep schools?

Does being in the gifted program help your chances of getting in?

I would really happy if anyone at all could answer. Thank you all for your help and i wish those of you that are applying best of luck for judgement day! :)

Also i forgot to mention the toughness of the gifted program’s teachers. These teachers grade REEEEEEEEEELY TOUGH. THANKS

no!!! you dont need straight a. I know kids who have gotten into GLADCHEMMS with GPAs ranging from 3.3s-4.0s.

Are u planning to skip a year? Just so u know, at the top BS it is much more common for kids to repeat a year than to skip a year. There are even some double-repeats (held back 2 years). It’s not just boys who repeat.

The number of repeats is quite large. If u skip a year, u will likely be younger (and possibly smaller) than the kids there.

how hard is it to get into the loomis chaffee summer program

I’m pretty sure the OP meant that he will be applying soon, because considering he’s in 7th grade, in august he’ll have to start his application to get into ninth grade. So to answer your question GMT no he’s not skipping, he’s just doing his research relatively early :)

Hey qwaser. I’m a sophomore at Choate.

1) no, you do not need straight A’s to get into any tsao school. Prep schools don’t only look at grades and numbers. I know choate as well as many other schools reject applicants with perfects scores and grades every year.

2) well… I don’t know what you mean by “gifted program.” obviously schools like seeing a student who is in some honors or higher level learning classes or programs, but it’s definitely not a deciding factor.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!!!

^ Exactly, don’t let a few B’s discourage you!
