Do you have to move into your dorm on move in day?

Would it be weird/would I be missing anything if I moved into my dorm a day or two after the first day the halls open? I would like to try to avoid the crowds on move in day, but I also don’t want to miss out on anything important.

Yeah you’re allowed to move in after move in day! You won’t be missing anything persay, but the first few days have a… buzz around them. Everyone is moving door to door meeting people, going to dinner with new people, finding classes. Plus it can take a few days to get everything set up before classes start. Moving in on Thursday instead of Wednesday? Not a big deal. Moving in Sunday? You’re going to be rushed and miss the first few days of “buzz”

You don’t have to move in on Wednesday, that’s just the first day of move-in.

If you aren’t moved in by Sunday night, though, Housing tends to freak out and think you just aren’t moving in… I’ve seen it happen a few times. It’s actually kind of interesting when your RAs do the “mandatory” meeting on Sunday evening and people haven’t moved in yet. I know someone that didn’t have Monday/Wednesday classes and just moved in on the Monday that classes started.

The line for move in really shrunk a few hours after the doors opened. We were in line at 10 for a noon opening, but but 2 or 3 there was no one in line. So maybe just moving in a few hours late would help with the crowds? we have only had one fsu move in, but that was our experience

Sophomore here. I wouldn’t say you’re missing much. If your goal is to go around and meet people, the entire first few weeks makes that very easy as long as you go to stuff. I didn’t know anybody on my floor despite moving in the first day and I made friends other places.
