Is it necessary to go at all to Wednesday's move in? Since it will be crowded, would it be easier to just move in on Thursday or is move in day mandatory?

Move-in day is not mandatory.

It might be easier to move in on Thursday, but it wouldn’t be as much fun. Move-in day is great - everyone is happy and excited and saying hello and helping each other out… You get to see USC’s incredible organization of the day that makes everything go smoothly. And it is the one day each year that parking is free!

Now that I think about it though, it might NOT be easier on Thursday - on move-in day they have special traffic patterns and unloading areas (you enter the gate specific to your dorm) that allow you to unload your stuff near your dorm. On Thursday you would be unloading in the parking garage and trekking to your dorm.

Also, theres usually floor meetings for your dorm on move in day where you meet your RA and the other people on the floor and learn about all the stuff related to your building

I considered delaying my move-in, but I have decided against it, for much the same reasons given by the previous posters.

My cousin’s friend is going into his junior year at USC, and he advised me not to miss move-in day, as it’s a great opportunity to meet and chat to others in the building (especially your floor).

Some of the highlights of move in day:
- Picking your space in your room
- For campus apartments, getting first dibs on your room (often there is a smaller and a larger room)
- Meeting your RA
- Planning with your roommate(s) for joint purchases.
- Helping other students who come to move in day without family members to help
- Purchasing a bike from the campus police during the sale
- Setting up your accounts at the credit union
- Working out at the Lyon Center
- Planning your evening at Visions and Voices on Aug. 19
10.Getting involved with community service activities

don’t skip move in day.

really, i would advise against it.
