I’m not sure if I’m as prepared for graduate school as I should be right now (maybe I’m just doubting myself a little too much, but eh), so I was thinking of taking a graduate-level course this upcoming semester just to test the waters. However, I’m not actually starting my graduate school career until the Fall 2015 semester (fingers crossed).
Keeping that in mind, does anyone know if I’d have to send my transcripts again to the schools that I’ve applied to after the Spring semester (after I complete that graduate-level course)?
It depends. If you are currently an undergraduate senior, the program you eventually choose might ask you to submit a final transcript to prove that you received your BA before you begin the program. They won’t be evaluating you on your grades, though; it’ll just be to assess whether or not you got the degree. My program actually asked for a copy of my college diploma instead.
But not all programs ask for this.
@juillet Right… Yeah, the programs that I’ve applied to have already asked me to do this. I’m taking a Fall Mini Term course that applies towards my Bachelor’s (ugh), so I haven’t sent them mine yet, and I won’t be until the 6th of this month or sometime after that (whenever grades come out; I’m not too sure when that is right now).
However, by some point before the end of the Spring 2015 semester, I will have already graduated. (I was actually scheduled to graduate during the Fall 2014 semester, but after unexpectedly dropping a class [and mistakenly believing that I was still fine credit-wise], I was told at the last minute that I didn’t have enough credits to graduate, hence the Fall Mini Term course. But after completing it, my graduation will supposedly be approved for this past semester. I hope that that’s true…)
So, in that case, do you think that I’d have to send my transcripts again to those programs, after completing the graduate-level class that I want to take this upcoming semester? Or would the individuals who admit applicants into those programs (if it makes a difference, I’m referring to Counselor Education MA programs) not care about any post-Bachelor’s work that I do? And is that something that you would suggest that I ask them about directly or not?
By the way, I’m sorry if all of that wasn’t clear from my original post! I’ll try to be as upfront as possible in the future. Also, thank you for the info and for your swift reply! I really appreciate it!
If you want to transfer credits, of course you need to get a transcript to your new school.
If you are just taking the class “for fun”, don’t bother.
@rhandco Thank you for the advice!
