Where do you guys do your research to come up with these schools?
I mean, I have a couple in mind, but I don't feel I have anywhere enough information to come up with a "final list". What do you guys consider when deciding on applying? -- price, location, academics (what else)... I mean as transfers, we're not exactly naive high schoolers anymore just looking at names, so I'm just curious, what is it exactly that draws you to these schools?

And to those applying to several prestigious privates-- Do you think that applying to so many will get in the way/lesser the overall impact of all your applications? I'm finding that having so many different applications/essays/major or field variations can get pretty difficult to handle... while it would seem much more realistic and efficient to apply to top UC's and maybe 2 privates?
These are just my thoughts, and I'm curious on what everyone else thinks about applying. As a person who completely overdid his freshman applications..(like 8 schools plus 6 more UC's), is there any sense in just applying all over the board "just to be safe"? -- (or is there any other reason why people would do this?)

any feedback would be appreciated

In regards to the NYU thing...im assuming its more of a new yorker thing, but here in NY if you go to NYU its really the mecca of culture, diversity and oppurtunity all rolled into one. I personally adore NYU and would die to go there (want to transfer). If you want a typical college experience though, look elsewhere. NYU is for the independent, level headed types.

ive been semi obssesed w/ college sicne like freshman year of hs but when the time came to choose a school i really didnt know where i wanted to go. anyway when i figured it out it was too late. so now im applying there as a transfer w/ a few other schools. depending on if i abs. love or abs. hate my school i will make the decision to apply to "safeties." b/c this year i applied to 10+ schools and i didnt take enough time w/ each application. so i think its a good idea to just focus on a few.

I think my final choices are Northwestern, Brown, Wesleyan, and Vassar. If I don't get into any of them, I will survive (and perhaps even thrive) at my current school.
