I think handemom is right-Syracuse accepts more because they need a greater yield, and they are predicting this year will be worse for them given the economy. I posted on another thread that per the local news, Syracuse and Lemoyne are expecting to accept 10-20% more this year and still have a lower yield due to offering more kids financial aid, therefore less per student. It is an expensive school but as an alumni, I can tell you I LOVED it there and got a great education and a great job right out of school (I graduated from the Whitman School of Management). I got into the Financial Management Program with General Electric and had a wonderful career until kids....the contacts SU has is amazing.

Rodney, my new best CC friend ... that's because their parents raised them that way unfortunately. My favorite kids are the ones who think on their own two feet, work hard and make the best of what they get -- and even better -- appreciate what they've been given -- then try to make the world a better place for all, not just themselves.

My D is a freshman drama major. She has met a ton of incredibly bright SU students in all of the various majors. Over the last several years, there were several top, high achieving students from her high school who were rejected from Newhouse. We are from one of the highest ranked public school systems in the nation -- so these are very, very smart kids, high scores, grades and great extracurriculars.

And I agree with everyone above -- it's very difficult to afford tuition at Syracuse and how many kids can go there now? The only reason we're suffering through it is because the drama program is one of the best in the country. Otherwise, my D would have had to pick a school that was less expensive and where she got more money. (She did get academic money but this is a drop in the bucket.)

I'm sure Syracuse is preparing for the worst for this fall ...

Most of the people on this website are kids who do well in school. therefore, you won't get kids with a 2.5-3.0 gpa posting saying they didnt in.

My guidance counselor just got off the phone with admissions and they said they are still processing both acceptances and declines and not to worry if you haven't heard, they will be sending out things through the end of the month.

An Asian from my school, who was also a complete slacker ranking at the bottom 25% with deplorable SAT and GPA, got into Syracuse. Trust me, it's really THAT easy.

...really? I mean what does that say about Syracuse?

That they are accepting more students because they know that many will not be able to go?

true. but. many private schools in the country are facing the same problem now with kids looking for cheaper education. Theyre not lowering their standards from what i can tell. just an objective viewpoint

Ironically enough someone from my school who considered Syracuse a major reach was accepted with a 40,000 dollar grant. I'm completely shocked and wonder just how much Syracuse has lowered there standards in order to take in more students. I truly hope this doesn't hurt them in the long run, while a bunch more students will be there that aren't as qualified as they should be the professors and programs will still be the same. So I can't imagine that things would go to wrong, or at least I hope...

i know someone with a 1510 who got in.

Is that a 1510 out of 1600 or 2400?

So no one can identify anyone who has not gotten in? I spoke to admissions today, at first I was simply told that there were still acceptances going out and my son would hear next week or late March. I asked specifically if any rejections had been mailed and after first saying acceptances and rejections were being mailed in each batch (when pressed about what went out already) she added that, yes, some rejections had been mailed already as well as acceptances. I said my son's classmates had heard already and she said everything was going out "without any rhyme or reason" from now until the end of March.

I know my D got a decline from another big university, and on the CC boards, all you heard about were the acceptances or waitlist, not any declines. She did not want to post it since she was disappointed. The admissions also told us that both were being sent out. Also on the Facebook SU class of 2013, it seems kids are getting letters daily. Anyway, I am not worried, but hope to hear very soon!!

1510 out of 2400... yeeeah.

yeah! someone in my school got SAT like 1500 also got accepted!!!which makes me kinda of angry. i worked so hard for what? for studying with this kind of kids? and even he gets more money than i do.... guess probably everyone in our school who applied syracuse will get accepted after all!!... i am so disappointed!!!

That actually makes me mad if a person who received a 1510 on their SATs was admitted already and i received a 1830 and still have yet to hear back it makes me question why i worked so hard in high school to get good grades. If i am not admitted i would be extremely disappointed.

redandgold: has anyone else heard from sports mgmt yet? each school/major has it's own agenda for admissions...hang in there.....

nobody that i have talked to has heard back from the sport management department i guess im just getting very tired of waiting lol ill try to hang in there have u heard back yet?

Daughter is a freshman at Newhouse and I have a soph daughter coming up.....just trying to help.....

thanks a lot for your help i appreciate you helping me stay sane lol

D has not heard about sport management, but on the Facebook class page, a couple kids are sport management. They could be ED. I hope all students realize kids are more than SAT scores, and many top schools don't even require them any more. As one Dean of Admission said, "4 hours on a weekend where the night before you had a big game, or 4 years of grades and ECs showing us who you are and what you are capable of. What do you think is more important?" My S had a 3.9 uw and 4.2 w avg, many ECs, traveled the world doing charity work and got into a top 20 LAC with only a 1200/1600 on his SATs. They barely looked at the SATs. He did not get any merit aid, which bummed him out, but we never compared with others because we don't know their story. Just my 2 cents....hang in there those who have not heard, our agony will be over soon, and hopefully in a happy way!
