Do you love NU?

I've been talking to my friends who had gone to NU and they say that if they could do it all over again, they'd choose their state school (UW MadisoN) and save on the tuition instead of going to NU. I haven't heard from people who have gone to other schools such as Duke, UChicago, Stanford. Most of them complain about the rigor and non-social life @ NU. Is it just a conicidence that I have friends who say this, or is this the general outlook?

I absolutely love NU and know that my life would be much less fun if I had chosen any other school....I know so many people who completely LOVE NU, so I don't know who these people are that you're talking to....

I love it with such a passion! And, like kmac, I know maaaany others who feel the same way. As long as you do your research before going, and choose it because it is the best fit for you... not for any singular reason... you'll love it too.

It's not as if Chicago has a social life...

Yeah, I can't believe you'd say that and then list UChicago as an alternative. If anything, we are definitely more fun than them. That said, I love it and have no complaints, and I would say 95% of the people I know feel the same way, so I guess your friends just suck :P

I love NU and I'm very happy I picked this school. No regrets!

The social scene is going to be what you make of it. I heard so many complaints and criticisms about it before applying ED last fall, but considering its size and location, you're going to find something to do as long as you're open-minded and flexible. There are always so many shows and stuff on campus, in addition to in and around Chicago. Plus, I wouldn't rule out the Greek scene until you try it. There's so harm in rushing--you may find a great group of people. And if not, then you'll be able to find lots of other alternatives. Really, much of your happiness is going to depend on the attitdue you go into it with. If you are really excited and put effort into it, and the scene still doesn't work for you, then you know it just isn't the right place for you.
