For a OOS freshman..............wondering how difficult it is going to be without a car? How far is Computer Science building from the Towers for example and to the food court?

I live in the Towers and don’t have a car and it’s not a problem. I ride my bike to every class which is much quicker than driving to class and then struggling to find a parking spot. At least one of your roommates will probably have a car as well, so they can drive to the grocery store and you can just ride along.

Ya as far as getting to class it’d be a waste of your time driving to each of your classes because you wouldnt find parking. I dont have a car and so far Ive gotten along just fine. Btw Im guessing you either applied, are planning on applying, or already got accepted by the Honors College? because unless they have extra space or you’re an upper classman its usually impossible to get into Towers. But anywho, back to the main point. UCF has 2 dining halls (buffet style), one right between Apollo and Libra and the other on the side of the UCF Arena, which is right between all 4 Towers. In that same area near the Towers you will find plenty of other restaurants. The main food court, however, is in the student union, which isnt exactly close to Towers, but I wouldnt say its far away. Its right smack in the middle of campus so its just as far for all housing complexes. I’m in Honors but I chose to live in Apollo since its cheaper and closer to the classrooms but if you have a bike, skateboard, longboard, or just dont leave for your classes as the last minute you should be fine. the entire university was designed using concentric circles with sidewalks that can take you anywhere.

I am a parent. Was watching some you tube videos of UCF and it seems like a city! Does it feel that big to you?

If son went into Comp Engnr and lets say he lived in the towers, how far a walk would that be? and the student center?

How big are your classes?

Everything is no more than a 10ish minute walk on campus. Come visit! That’s the very best way to ease your mind. Very worth looking at in person!

Wish we could! We are half way across the world from you! Would it make sense to come in Dec?

If you are seriously considering attending the university, then I think any time would be better than not coming at all. December is a busy time for the attractions, such as visiting Disney, etc. The earlier in the month, the better.

If by Dec, you mean when the school is on break - it would be better to visit when the campus is hoppin’ if you could.

As far as the car - need no, nice yes. My daughter (now a Sr.) has had her car since freshman year and since she didn’t have a meal plan, it worked out well for her going to the store for food. She tried to drive to class ONCE and vowed never again! By the time she found a spot and parked, it would have been quicker to walk. She says that walking accross the whole campus (say from the rec center to the towers) takes only 20 minutes and it’s not like you are doing it in a Chicago winter.

We are from IL and she has never driven home alone (dad flies down and drives back with her). The airport is only about 20 minutes from campus and it’s easy to find someone to take you (esp. if you offer to pay the tolls - TONS of toll roads around Orlando). Also, the airfares into Orlando (or even Tampa) are usually pretty good, so she has come home or we have gone there many times.

PM if you have any questions!
