IMPORTANT Do you have to pay more money if you take more than 15 or 18 credits a semester in college? Like if you take above that then do you have to pay like 300 dollars more per class that you take? Please answer.

You have to ask your University Financial Aid person. Some schools let you take over 18 credits without charging extra and some do not.

For example, at the University I am to transfer to in the Spring I can take 7 or 8 classes and only have to pay for 6 classes. But, where I am at University now, that would bankrupt me to do.

Alright?

So, ask that financial aid person pronto. Be sure to not ask a student worker, ask a professional:)

From what I've read, most schools charge for taking over 18 credits.

I agree that each school sets its own policy. At USC, you have to pay for credits above 18/semester. Don't guess -- ask & try to get the policy in writing so you will know what it is.

Absolutely, they charge . . . a lot at private universities for sure. D is taking a 4-credit overload and it's costing us almost $3800.

But lots cheaper than living in Boston another semester! :-)

It varies among colleges. Many charge per hour if you go over 17 or 18 and a number (example: Cornell) do not.

But I would not take 18 credit hours. That's insane.

What I thought 18 credits was normal for smart students? Is it normal. Like don't really smart people take 20+ credits.

At USC, to get your engineering degree in 4 years, you pretty much HAVE to take 17-18 credits/semester. Other schools & majors & Us may be different. 18 is considered a fairly heavy load at most Us, >18 is REALLY heavy.

I once took 20 credit hours in one semester.

I know someone's who's done 22.

My school charges about 1,000 a credit hour over 16...and my degree requires so many credits that to graduate in four years a lot of students have to take those 18 credit semesters. Thank goodness for AP credit and community college during summer.

Really depends where you are. At S's school the charge is the same for any over 6 (full time). He took 20 last semester (5As 2Bs and a credit - not sure where that came from) but was in the library all of the time.
