how real is this whole email/facebook deal? i'm always afraid that my roommate will turn out to be someone completely diff from what she seems online.

I'd definitely try to get in touch, either facebook, e-mail, telephone, etc. It's good to know a little bit about your roomie before you get there. You'll have the initial awkwardness kind of out of the way.

facebook wont tell you if they smell

people tend to lie...just make the best of your situation...

how do you find out who your roomates are?

I would never talk to my roommate online...he's a freak.

lol jp wave. He's cool...altho gome is right about not knowing if he smells yet. haha but ya, I talk to him a lot.

HAHHAHA gomestar

figgy you're a gt right?

yeah my roommate turned out so different and i was disappointed

I talked to mine twice on aim. I think it's a little weird trying to bond with them online before you actually meet them. It's cool to introduce yourself and find out the basics, talk about who's bringing what, and facebook friend.

so u'd recommend ppl not getting like too close to his roommate online right? just in case his roommate isn't what he seems over the internet?

Freshman year I didn't talk much to mine...maybe a few facebook and im messages. This year (ya I'm a gt) we talk a lot. I'm sure this'll help us be able to make other friends faster since we won't be dealing with the weirdness of suddenely having a stranger living in ur room lol.

i didn't talk three housemates much and when we did talk it was all awkward. I would act like my AIM was messed up and sign off unexpectedly to end the convo lol. But when we actually met each other they became some of the best friends I had at Cornell, even in the first days. So don't sweat it, you'll have all the time in the world to talk next year. If he is a jerk there's no use quickening the process of finding out he is a jerk in the summer.

figgy where are you living? i was in cascadilla with a whole bunch of transfers and we all became really good friends.. i liked it better than i think i would have on west campus.

Carl Becker...I'm pumped!
