Do you think applying ED to Richmond is helpful if you have no hooks?

Can anyone generalize who gets accepted ED? Full pay? Top stats? etc… Thank you

Because of ED’s binding nature, I’m sure your likelihood of admittance would be increased no matter who you are. Top stats people would get a major benefit because it expresses a lot of interest with little chance of them backing out; however, I’m sure most of them would like to keep their options open. Full pay people shouldn’t get any special benefits as UR accepts domestic applicants without consideration for finances. Generally, if it’s 100% your first choice (such is the case with many legacy applicants or students who see UR as a big reach), I’d say go ED; it’ll probably help you out. If you’d rather let the game play out, EA might be a more fitting option.

@MON824 said it perfectly. Legacy applicants and people who know UR is their #1 typically apply ED. It helps if you apply ED and you have also applied to other schools that are competitors with UR such as Boston College, UVA, William and Mary, Wake Forest, etc. ED shows a demonstrated interest and commitment. A lot of times people get waitlisted during regular decision not because they weren’t good enough applicants, but because UR thought they may be more likely to go to another school, so they didn’t offer a spot.

@rvalover7 Thank you. Why does it matter if you apply to schools like Boston College et. al? Does Richmond see where you apply?

@MON824 Thank you.

@citymama9 No, not necessarily. Typically people who apply to UR have similar stats and also apply to schools similar to UR like I mentioned above.
