My GPA weighted freshman and sophomore year combined was 3.8 (yes I know I messed up a little). Ended freshman and sophomore year with a couple of high 80s and low 90s. I took AP Comp Sci test when I was in 8th grade and got a 4. Junior year is looking pretty good so far, i just finished the quarter with all 90s. I plan on finishing junior year with all 90s and higher. Currently taking 3 ap’s (Physics 1, APUSH, and AP CALC AB). Summer going into junior year I took a full undergraduate class in Computer Architecture at SCSU (Course #: CSC305) and ended with an A-. This fall I’m currently taking another full semester undergraduate course (Course #: CSC424) in System Administration also at SCSU. I plan on taking a couple more undergraduate courses in the spring and summer in deep learning and object oriented programming. I’m also creating my own programming club to help the middle schooler children in my area learn python. If I do well this junior year, get good score in the SAT (1400+), get a good score in my APs, and take 4-5 more APs my senior, do you think I can get into my dream school Carnegie Mellon?
Is “Networking and Security” major outside of SCS? A quick Google didn’t find it.
The School of Computer Science admitted class last year had 25-75% SAT scores somewhere around 1530-1580 and GPA average of 3.96, top 2% of the graduating class.
Your demonstrated interest, especially in all the activities that you’ve done in junior year are all really good contributors towards your chances. Don’t worry too much about freshman grades, because remember those aren’t factored into your GPA, so only use your sophomore year in conjunction with junior year!
At the end of the day, whether you get it in or not is really unpredictable; good stats do help, but sometimes admissions officers intuitively and visibly can sense some unique potential in you that isn’t necessarily reflected in your grades. I’d say, FINISH junior year strong, and work hard on your programming club because I think that combining your passions AND helping others is always a thing that’s impressive. Good luck for the rest of junior year!
Damn, better than me right now haha
@Acuriousgirl Thany you very much, you gave me a lot of confidence.
