Hi there everyone!
I’m a Junior from India, and I’ll be applying to Harvard next year.
For my Junior year I’ve picked the stream Humanities, with the toughest subjects available - English, History, Political Science, Economics, Math, Hindi.
We had our Nation-wide Board Examinations last year, and I ranked second in my school with a 100 in Math and a 97.4% overall. SAT Score 2220 - 740CR, 710M, 770W
About my EC achievements -
Won National Spell Bee. Won a National Level Cryptic Crossword Competition.
Won Best Production at a National level Drama Competition
Won Best Script and Runners Up Best Production at a City level Drama Competition
Won the Silver Award twice in a row at the Royal Commonwealth Essay Competition (International)
Ranked 5th Nation-wide in an essay competition.
Editor-in-Chief of my school magazine
Head of the Press Corps for my school MUN.
I’m considering a Special Concentration combining English and History and Literature.
I’m in love with Harvard, and I really, really want to go there. Any takes?
Oh, and by the way, Thank you!
@OraetLabora21 very slim chance, not because of your application or anything, but simply because Harvard is extremely competitive coming from countries such as India or China. I would look for backup plans as well.
The odds are pretty bleak. There are more than 1.2 billion in India. There are 22.5 million students enrolled in secondary schools meaning about 20 million graduate each year. Not sure how many high schools there are in India, but there are quite a few. For 2013/2014 there were 185 non-resident students admitted to Harvard. If Harvard admitted students from India at the same rate as the percentage of India students admitted to all US undergraduate and graduate programs this would mean 21 students from India would be admitted each year. It’s probably higher than this maybe 30 or 40. It is possible that winning events at the national level will strengthen your application but the odds are about 1 in 500,000. Possible yes, but you need a backup plan
Do I think you CAN get in? Yes. Will you get in? Nobody but the admissions officers know. There is nothing more you can or should do in order to appeal Harvard. Just apply, and if they reject you, it was not meant to be.
