Do you think I could appeal my AP scores for credit?

Hello, I have several 3's on AP tests in subjects that are not really science or math related. My probable future college only accepts 4s or 5s while many top engineering colleges (UCLA for example) accept my 3s. Should I try to appeal for credit, based on the fact that I am going into engineering and U.S History contributes nothing towards that? Has anyone done this at their college? Thanks!

It never works. The AP levels are set by departments and they will not usually budge. if you want to maximize your AP credits, then you might want to reconsider your college choice but this is not a good reason to choose a school over another.

UCLA accepts many AP scores for credit units, but far fewer for subject credit:

It does not look like AP scores in humanities and social studies subjects will fulfill any general education requirements for UCLA engineering:
[UCLA General Catalog 2013-14: Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/catalog/catalog13-14-45.htm)
[University of California - Los Angeles](<a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors)

There seems to be little point in trying to get credit units without subject credit if you are going into engineering, which typically requires almost all of your credit units over four years to satisfy major and general education requirements (so you would likely not be able to use them to graduate any earlier if that is your intent).

Ohhhhh alright thanks so much! When I go to register for my classes this summer I will ask about it and see what I can do, but its not looking like I will be able to make anything out of it. I’m feeling a little bit better about my classes this year so hopefully I can get some credits out of the way.

Edit: I went and looked and the main credit that UCLA would give me is for APUSH. Oh how I would love to get history out of the way before hand.

UCLA only gives 8 quarter units of credit for the AP US history score. The AH requirement referred to is a very baseline requirement that is normally fulfilled by completion of a high school US history course; only students who did not graduate from a US high school would have to worry about it (probably mainly transfer students, who are not required to have graduated from high school, since frosh admission generally required a US history course in high school).

The “real” general education requirements for UCLA engineering (other than the first quarter of English composition) do not appear to be fulfillable with AP scores.

Okay, that makes more sense. Thank you for the info!
