Do you think I have a chance?

I really want to go to StonyBrook just like my mom and dad did. My dad is an alumni (He got his masters from there and has started to donate money to the school through the alumni program). My brother has also been accepted as a transfer student from the University of Maryland-College Park. My only questions are if my grades are good enough?

GPA- I believe its either an 85, 86, or if i am lucky an 87. I cant really remember what my guidance counselor told me and the only copy i have is from last year.

SAT- My scores are:

Math- 630
Critical Reading- 550
Writing- 650 (Will they take this into consideration?)

also I took the ACT

ACT- 28.

I have also been active in community service for the past 2-2 1/2 years.

I volunteered in my local library for about 2 1/2 years

also I volunteer in my local hospital. I have been doing this for a little over 1 year and I have been the vice-president of the Junior Volunteers (Junior Auxiliary) for about 5-6 months now. I was forgot to mention on the supplemental application thought that I am the VP and I just put member.

What do you guys think? If you need more info I will be more than happy to give it to you.

I would like sbuAdmissions (I think thats the name, I am new to this site) to give me feedback since he/she is familiar with the admissions process.

You have a good chance.

I don't like to "chance" folks, but I'd say you'd likely be a competitive candidate. Your GPA might be the difference... a lot rides on your grades and your coursework.

Good luck, and keep your grades up this year!

Chris

taking all your AP's and doing well on them is a good thing right? By well i mean lke 88+

I took AP courses but I got a final grade of 80 or close to 80 in them. Do you think that might hurt me since there are other applicants who took Regents level courses and got 90+?

All of my regents are 90+ except for Bio (84 i believe), Chem (74 I believe), and Math B( 74 also).

The rest are mostly 94+ and also I took the Math B last June (june 2008, which was supposedly the hardest Math B ever given and a majority of kids failed or borderline failed the test)

I also got a 3 on my Bio AP, I know that is not good since Bio is supposedly the easiest AP to get a 4, 5 on but will this 3 put me ahead of other Regents students who did not take AP Classes?

I really want to get into this school.... I have always wanted to get in and attend just like my mother/father did.
