Hello everyone, I am a junior and I got a 1260 on this December’s SAT (620 R/W and 640 Math). Ever since, I’ve been practicing and studying for the next SAT on March, my goal is to go through the 1400 benchmark on the upcoming SAT. Do you think I might be able to improve my score by >140 points by March? I study as much as I can on the weekends as there is physically no more time for me to study for the SAT during the week because of the school work. I had a bit of time during the Christmas weekends during which I tried to study everyday. I hope I’ve covered everything properly. Thanks everyone in advance!!
Start taking practice tests every week and go over what you got wrong. Short answer is yes it’s doable. You should have an idea from your practice tests also.
You got it. Try to do a practice test a week (weekend morning), and then for the 3 weeks leading up to the tests, do 2 a week. That’s how I got my score from 1160 to 1380 in 2 months.
An organization like Princeton Review guarantees your score will go up 200 points if you go for their classes, so I’m sure the answer is yes.
If you didn’t want to pay for classes, I would do a full practice test under the same conditions, 3 hours, more repetitions as the time nears. Figure out everything that you got wrong. The Meltzer book on Critical Reading can help a lot also if used properly.
Khan Academy as well.
I’d say work on your math score first with UWorld because that’s the fastest way for your score to go up. The Meltzer book on grammar is great as well.
Doing practice tests is important, but the important part is not doing the practice tests or scoring them or looking over your answers … the most important part of the effort – by far – is to do a deep analysis of errors. If you get a quadratic equation question wrong, you should not just figure out how to get that specific question right, but you should review the mathematical rules about quadratic equations. Do you know standard form for quadratic equations? Do you have the quadratic formula memorized? Do you know vertex form? Can you explain how / when you might have 2 solutions or 1 solution or no real solutions? If you get a quadratic equation question wrong, you should study quadratic equations on Khan Academy or, better yet, with the book PWN the SAT Math, by Mike McClenathan. If you do just one or two practice tests, but you truly study your errors carefully, you will be in a much better place than if you do 6 practice tests but just quickly review your errors.
I took a practice SAT every weekend when I was a junior in high school. Practice is the only way you can get better. You can definitely get your score up. It took me 4 tries to get a score I was happy with. Best of luck!!
I found very challenging math questions on uworld. I think you will find them useful.
