Do you think I should bother apply to Syracuse?

I’ve been love with Syracuse since I was a child and now that it’s my senior year, I’m hesitant about applying, however if I do apply, I want to apply ED. I want to major in chemistry. My GPA is 3/4.0 and 3.586/5.0 and my ACT is currently a 26. I want to apply, but I feel like I am not good enough for this prestigious school. Please let me know what you think.

-Tennis for two years (sophomore and senior year)
-member of Student Council throughout high school
-Vice President of Junior Club
-Vice President of Prom Committee
-> helped to organize the entire event
-I have also been a member of HPA (Health Professionals of America) club for two years
-Part of a student volunteering organization

Outside of school:
-I have been volunteering at the local hospital for two years with 100+ volunteer hours
-I also volunteered at a blood drive hosted by the National Red Cross last September
-I have also helped to raise awareness and created a fund for Earthquake survivors

I also didn’t do well on the AP tests from last year, but I am most likely retaking them this school year.

Your GPA may be a little bit too low, but you have to keep in mind that you’ve had a difficult course load throughout high school. The volunteer service looks solid as well. I would definitely give it a shot! It couldn’t hurt to send an application in! Good Luck!

It seems like a reach school. But if it is your number one and you want to apply ED, I still recommend you apply. I would maybe recommend taking the sat or act one more time, that might give you a better shot.

Would you be full pay? What state are you from?Have you done anything suggesting that you have interest in chemistry? What are you hoping to do with a chem major?

It is my reach school!!! I am not expecting anything back, but it would be so cool:)

I would not be full pay. My parents make less than the annual tuition for cuse. I’m from Illinois and I haven’t really done anything related to my major except for chemistry. I want to major in Chemistry and then go to grad school and get a degree in genetics engineering to do research!!

do you think I should do ED? I still don’t know and I know I have a week or so left to decide…

Apply ED if if is your top choice. It seems like a reach but I don’t know the specifics of Syracuse’s ED acceptance rate.

It has an ED acceptance rate of 76% from what I hear…

You should consider Syracuse to be realistic for you. An ED application to a school for which you are unsure of funding can be risky, however.

I have. I know that my GPA is super low, but my ACT is their average score and my ECs are pretty decent. I was told that if I can’t pay and nothing works out, they can relieve me from ED?

“I was told that if I can’t pay and nothing works out, they can release me from ED?”

I believe they will and must. My only concern for you is that if this were the case, the process itself could distract you from your other applications. So just take this into account in your planning before you make your decision.

I will definitely think it through! I already know the other institution I would attend if I did not get into Cuse and I would be happy going there if I didn’t get into Cuse. However, Cuse is my dream school and getting in there would mean the world to me!!!
